Built on the Word of God.

Everything Awana does is rooted in God's Word. Here's a short summary of what we believe. You can read Awana's complete doctrinal statement, with Scripture references, on awana.org.

What we believe

The Bible

The Bible, Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God, without error in the original manuscripts, and the authoritative standard for every life. (2 Timothy 3:16–17)

God

There is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He created all things and, out of love for all people, sent Christ to save sinners. (Matthew 28:19; John 3:16)

Jesus Christ

Jesus is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, sinless. He died for our sins, rose bodily on the third day, ascended to the Father, and will return. (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God. He convicts of sin, guides into truth, gives new life, and lives in every believer to make them more like Christ. (John 16:7–11)

Sin

People were created in God's image, but through Adam's sin all are sinners, separated from God and unable to save themselves. (Romans 3:23)

Salvation

Salvation is God's gift, received by grace through personal faith in Jesus Christ, not by works. Those who are truly saved are secure in Christ forever. (Ephesians 2:8–9)

The Church

The Church is made up of all who have saving faith in Jesus, called to worship, fellowship, teach and make disciples throughout the world. Awana believes in the importance of the local church. (Acts 2:42)

Baptism and the Lord's Supper

Believers observe baptism and the Lord's Supper as acts of obedience and fellowship, not as a means of salvation. (Matthew 28:19–20)

The Christian life

Christians are called to grow in holiness through Scripture, prayer, fellowship and a life of service. (Galatians 5:16–26)

Human life, marriage and sexuality

Every human life is sacred, created by God in His image from conception to natural death. Awana's statement also sets out its beliefs on marriage between one man and one woman, and on sexuality. (Genesis 1:26–27)

Future events

Jesus will return personally and bodily. All will be raised, believers to everlasting glory and unbelievers to judgment. (1 Thessalonians 4:13–18)
